Many actresses have taken on the role to play Elizabeth I.
Cate Blanchett in 1997 stared in Elizabeth the film, Bette Davis in The private
lives of Elizabeth and Essex. Glenda Jackson stared in the BBC TV series
Elizabeth R, Anne Marie Duff in The Virgin Queen and Helen Mirren in Elizabeth
I. Having this role was said to be very gruelling, many of the actresses chose
to shave their hair off for the role in particular Bette Davis had her hair
line shaved back and eyebrows shaved off. With shaving this particular part of
the hair the actresses had the fear of their hair not growing fully back as it
is such a sensitive part.
